Supporting neighborhood transportation planning is just one of the goals that emerged from the Countywide Transportation Plan. As part of that effort, the Authority supports community-based transportation improvements through a neighborhood transportation planning program. This program aims both to address community concerns on transportation conditions in their neighborhood and to engage community leadership in the transportation planning process. Throughout the study process the Authority coordinates closely with residents, businesses, community groups, and agency staff to identify needs and solutions, and to coordinate with other projects. Working with community groups and agency partners such as the Municipal Transportation Agency, the Department of Public Works, the Department of Public Health and other City agencies as appropriate, neighborhood transportation plans have already been developed in the Tenderloin/Little Saigon (completed February 2007), in the Outer Mission (Mission-Chavez, completed March 2007), and in Bernal Heights (Mission South of Geneva). In addition, we look forward to launching new studies with interested communities. The Columbus Avenue Neighborhood Transportation Plan is now in its final stages and the West SoMA plan is now in its initial stages.
