On March 29, the Transportation Authority joined SFMTA Chair Amanda Eaken and Director Jeffrey Tumlin, District 6 Transportation Authority Board Member Matt Dorsey, the SF Bike Coalition, and the San Francisco Giants to celebrate the completion of the 3rd Street Quick-Build Project. The Transportation Authority supported this project with Prop L sales tax and Prop D Traffic Congestion Relief program funds.
The project is one of several quick-builds designed to install low-cost, quick-to-deliver, and adjustable traffic measures to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety on the Vision Zero High Injury Network.
The project includes a new protected bike lane on 3rd Street between Townsend Street and the Lefty O’Doul Bridge and pedestrian upgrades. The improvements bolster connectivity and access for those walking, rolling, or biking to and from South of Market, the Embarcadero/King Street corridor, Oracle Park, Mission Bay, the San Francisco Bay Trail, and Southeast San Francisco.
Lou Seal from the SF Giants was on hand to help with the festivities, delivered by SFMTA just ahead of the Giants’ opening day.
