Staff from transit agencies, SF Public Works, SFPD, and community members standing by new traffic signal at Alemany and Rosseau

In December we joined former Transportation Authority Board Member and District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai, SFMTA, San Francisco Public Works, San Francisco Police Department, and community members to celebrate the completion of a new signal at Alemany Boulevard and Rousseau Street.

This project will improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and all users of the road when crossing Alemany Boulevard.

The Transportation Authority contributed $850,000 to design and construct the new signal and associated signal conduits at Alemany and Rosseau.

We also allocated $3.4 million as part of Contract 65 New Traffic Signals which includes construction of new traffic signals at six intersections including at Alemany and Theresa, Lawrence and Rousseau. The signal at Lawrence Avenue was activated in November 2023, and the signal at Theresa Street was activated in February 2024.

Each project includes:

  • Pedestrian countdown signal
  • Accessible (audible) pedestrian signals
  • Curb ramps and a pedestrian crossing with pedestrian-activated rectangular rapid-flashing beacon.
  • High-visibility signal heads
  • Signage
  • Phase timing

All three intersections are located on the Vision Zero High Injury Network and support pedestrian access to Glen Park BART station and Muni bus routes.
