Last month SFMTA completed a new two-way protected bikeway along the Embarcadero between Mission and Broadway streets. This work extends safety upgrades added between Howard and Mission streets in 2020 to Broadway Street – tripling the length of the waterfront bikeway.
This quick-build project is the first phase of long-term improvements planned for the Embarcardero and will improve safety and comfort for bicyclists and pedestrians.
In addition to the bikeway, the project includes traffic signal timing updates, expanded loading areas near the Ferry Building, relocated bus zones, and accessible parking blue zones. Additional bike parking and wayfinding signage will be installed in the coming months.
The Transportation Authority provided $1 million in half-cent sales tax funds to support the construction of quick-build improvements.
