The San Francisco Transportation Plan is San Francisco’s long-range investment and policy blueprint encompassing every transportation mode, transit operator, and all streets and freeways over a 30-year horizon. As San Francisco’s transportation needs evolve and as the city grows and changes, the Transportation Authority updates the San Francisco Transportation Plan every four years along with Plan Bay Area, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s regional long-range plan. Together, Plan Bay Area and the SFTP position San Francisco’s and the Bay Area’s infrastructure priorities for Federal and state transportation grants.
During the spring, we asked the community to help us shape the plan by giving input about spending priorities.
Here’s what we heard
Investment Themes
- Restore transit service and improve reliability
- Improve street safety
- Continue planning for the next generation of transportation projects
Policy Themes
- Accountability and project delivery
- Equity and affordability
- Personal security
- Integrated regional transit service to make trips easier and more reliable
Based on expected revenues over the next 30 years, the discretionary investments in the San Francisco Transportation Plan total $15 billion and would bring benefits to the community that aligns with ConnectSF and Plan Bay Area goals. These include safer and smoother streets, more reliable transit and paratransit, increased accessibility, and improved air quality. With new revenues, a further $13 billion in infrastructure upgrades and transit services would be possible.
