Speed hump in front of a school

Speed hump in front of Cleveland Elementary School in the Excelsior District

SFMTA completed traffic calming improvements in District 11 last month. These include a total of over 20 speed humps, speed cushions, and raised crosswalks throughout the Excelsior, Oceanview, and Ingleside neighborhoods. Locations for the improvements were determined through community outreach and based on feasibility and proximity to schools in the district.

These traffic calming improvements will help to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for people walking and biking.

The Transportation Authority provided $600,000 in funding from the Neighborhood Program of the half-cent sales tax for transportation, at the request of District 11 Supervisor and Transportation Authority Board Member Ahsha Safai.

SFMTA is currently constructing a second round of traffic calming in District 11, also funded through the Neighborhood Program. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
