On August 29, the Transportation Authority joined District 1 Transportation Authority Board Member Connie Chan, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, San Francisco Department of Public Works, Walk SF, and local residents to celebrate the delivery of pedestrian improvements including new rectangular rapid flashing beacons at the intersection of 38th Avenue and Geary Boulevard. The Transportation Authority supported this project’s design and construction with $212,000 in transportation sales tax dollars.

The project will help improve pedestrian safety by alerting motorists to the presence of pedestrians and encourage drivers to yield to pedestrians crossing Geary Boulevard at 38th Avenue.

The improvements include pedestrian push buttons and updated signage to improve pedestrian safety, visibility, and slow traffic at the intersection. The improvements are designed for the eastbound and westbound directions of Geary Boulevard where traffic is uncontrolled while northbound and southbound approaches to the intersection are currently stop controlled.

This project is part of the Transportation Authority’s Neighborhood Program which supports and delivers community-supported neighborhood transportation projects in each supervisorial district. These projects prioritize safety, accessibility, and equity using half-cent sales tax funds.
