SFTMA opened the long-awaited Central Subway on November 19 for weekend-only service, adding four new train stations to San Francisco’s transit system.

We celebrated the completion of upgrades at Powell Street Station. The project revitalized the station with new art, lighting, fare gates, wayfinding, and more to improve safety, security, and overall customer experience.

Improvements coming to District 3 include a pedestrian scramble at Kearny/Jackson, a crosswalk at Columbus/Green/Stockton, and removal of dual-turn lanes at the intersections of Kearny and Post, Sutter, and Pine.

The Brotherhood Way Safety and Circulation Plan will develop near- and long-term concepts to improve safety, circulation, and connectivity through the Brotherhood Way and Alemany Boulevard corridors and surrounding streets.

The SFMTA completed Walk Audits at 10 San Francisco elementary, middle and high schools to improve safety for students and caregivers.

The Central Subway will extend the Muni T-Third line north from Fourth and King streets, traveling mostly underground to Chinatown.

In late September, the Transportation Authority nominated several projects for funding, including elevator modernizations, next generation faregates at San Francisco BART stations, seismic retrofitting on Treasure Island and improvements on Muni.
