BART held a toilet paper-cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of the Powell Station’s restrooms. We supported the Powell Modernization Project, which includes the restroom renovations, new lighting, and overall station improvements with funding from the half-cent sales tax for transportation.

The Transportation Authority Board re-elected District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman as Chair and District 3 Supervisor Aaron Peskin as Vice-Chair for 2022. Our agency also released the 2021 Annual Report that provides highlights of what we planned, funded, and delivered last year.

A safer and improved Taylor Street is in the works for the Tenderloin community. The Transportation Authority supported the planning and design of this project with over $2.3 million in funding from San Francisco’s half-cent sales tax for transportation.

Our board approved over $2.8 million in half-cent sales tax funds and $3 million in TNC Tax funds to support SFMTA’s Vision Zero Quick-Build Program. The goal of the program is to deliver projects quickly and efficiently to high-need locations identified on the Vision Zero High Injury Network.

The Transportation Authority has released the latest data on congestion in San Francisco. As San Francisco’s Congestion Management Agency, we monitor traffic congestion on San Francisco streets and issue a report on the latest data every two years.

On November 15, President Biden signed the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act which will invest nearly $1 trillion in transportation, water, broadband, and power infrastructure across the nation. The U.S. Department of Transportation also awarded an $18 million RAISE grant to the West Side Bridges replacement and seismic retrofit project on Yerba Buena Island.

Our board approved $925,000 in half-cent sales tax for transportation funds to support SFMTA’s Schools Engineering Program. Within San Francisco’s Safe Routes to School, this program will fund the planning, design, and construction of signage, paint markings, and traffic calming measures at schools throughout the city.
